CHMC- Clinic for Health and Medical Care
The name Clinic for Health and Medical Care – CHMC – reflects our mission to cure and prevent mental health and physical disorders. CHMC is outpatient clinic for psychiatry operating in two locations, Dubai Healthcare City and Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT). Our state-of-art treatment consists of in-depth diagnostics and carefully thought treatment plan. We actively involve our patients in the treatment process. The patient will be seen by the same psychiatrist and counsellor over the entire treatment. If an additional diagnostic such as CT scans or MRIs, would be necessary, we refer the patients to our partners located in the same building.

Dr. Kowal is Senior Consultant in Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and family Medicine (German Board) with over 30 years of experience in his fields of expertise. He studied human medicine at the medical school of the Ruprechts – Karl – University in Heidelberg (Germany), which is the oldest and currently the best ranked university in Germany (QS World University Ranking). He completed his dissertation at the same university acquiring his doctoral degree (PhD). In the following years, he completed his studies with specialty exams in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Medical Chamber of Koblenz (Germany), and in Family Medicine at the Medical Chamber of Hanover (Germany). Before moving to Dubai, Dr.Kowal worked as Head of Department and Medical Director in psychiatric hospitals in Germany.

Dr. Annette Schonder was born and grew up in Augsburg, Germany. Upon completion of her high school education, she moved to the USA where she studied Psychology and Sociology at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA, finishing her studies with High Distinction. She continued her scientific studies at Breining Institute, Orangevale, California, (USA), earning a Doctorate in Psychology.

Diana’s educational background includes a master’s degree (MSc) in Psychology and Mental Health (the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) King’s College London), PGDip in Psychological Therapies (Queen Mary University of London), bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science and Techniques and participation in several hundred hours of additional education and supervised work achieving certifications in Performance and Stress Management (IAFPD, UK) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) (Beck Institute, USA). Diana is a member of the International Society for Coaching Psychology (ISCP, UK) and British Psychological Society (BPS).

Twin Rivers Rehab was opened in March 2011 by David & Caroline Briskham. David is a United Kingdom Accredited Addictions Therapist and has been in recovery from addiction for 24 years. He trained at Broadway Lodge (Longest continuously operating addiction treatment centre in Europe-opened 1974) in England and was offered a job in an addiction’s treatment centre in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa in 2001. David decided to open his own residential treatment centre and put all he had learned in England and South Africa into developing what is now recognised as a premier treatment option in Africa.
The facility offers high-end treatment that cannot be matched in the UAE. The emphasis is very much on individual and group therapy, creating ample opportunity for clients to learn how to express themselves effectively and engage in new ways of thinking and behaving that are more positive and not so destructive.
